CONDITION

The all-important black and gold Parlophone labels are in superb condition. There's no writing or other blemishes, the gold text is striking and clearly legible with no fading. The spindle hole is clean with no evidence of wear and very little sign of use. The embossed Z T tax code is stamped around the centre of the Side Two label.

As previously stated this is the first pressing with Dick James Mus. Co. credit for Please Please Me, Misery, I Saw Her Standing There & Do You Want To Know A Secret.

The machine stamped matrix numbers and stampers are as follows:

Side One YEX 94-1 G 1
Side Two YEX 95-1 R 1

The vinyl remains free of any significant marks or blemishes with only light surface hairline marks on either side preventing a higher grading. Amazingly for a record such as this, it can be seen that the record has also been played sparingly on a higher grade system and not subjected to any heavy stylii or wayward Sixties parties.

Audibly, this is a wonderful sounding record. Upon play-grading the record the clarity and volume remains impressive, just like a Sixties pressing should.
Background noise remains at a minimum and there is no evidence of 'burring' at the edges of the stereo spectrum, despite the peculiar 'vocals one side & instruments the other' 1963 stereo mix.

The "Use Emitex" poly-lined inner has the period correct PATENTS APPLIED FOR (left) and MADE IN GREAT BRITAIN (right) text.

The heavyweight front laminated, flipback picture sleeve has a large block STEREO logo on the front. The Angus McBean photographer credit starts just to the right of the 's' in 'songs' with 'Printed and Made by Ernest J. Day & Co. Ltd. London' and both PMC 1202 and PCS 3042 catalogue numbers on the bottom flip, indicating one of the first batch of sleeves.
Being an E.J. Day sleeve, this has the angular cut ends to the flips as opposed to the later rounded ones that Garrod & Lofthouse preferred.

The front image retains a shiny gloss and the laminate remains wonderfully intact. There is evidence of minor scuffing at the corners, leading to tiny areas of paper loss but this is far less than would normally be found and is fairly minor.
There is a name written neatly at the top of the back of the sleeve, which still retains the '30/- ' price faintly written on the top flip!
The flips show very little scuffing or wear & the back remains unworn with very little disclouration evident, even after fifty years.
The spine print is clearly legible and there are no splits in any of the seams.

This legendary album rarely surfaces in anything other than tatty condition. It's a pleasure to offer one that is truly Excellent, made all the more remarkable considering that most copies were heavily parties and that it is over fifty years old.
