The Very Best Of

THE MOVE The Very Best Of (2009 UK 25-track CD album - No group sums up both the gaudy thrills and the creative tensions inherent in late '60s pop more magnificently than The Move. They were radiofriendly rock 'n' rollers with progressive ambition; sharp suited ruffians who lost their heads to flower power and who had a revolving door policy towards bassists and lead singers that had even managers and agents confused, let alone the millions who gawped with eye-popping delight each time the band appeared on Top Of The Pops. The Move's career comprised a remarkable seven-year run of near-perfect chart classics written by the remarkable Roy Wood as well as some of the most diverse work undertaken by a successful pop act, from that or any other era. This particular collection takes in all the big hitters, from 'Night Of Fear' in 1966, which anticipated the psychedelia of the following year, via elusive B-sides, live cuts and choice album tracks to the rousing rock'n'roll revivalism of 'California Man' in 1972. Complete with a 20-page picture booklet containing rare, recently unearthed photos and a comprehensive & entertaining band history penned by Mojo scribe Mark Paytress, making this without doubt the definitive Move 'Best Of' package to date.)
