THE MODERN JAZZ SEXTET The Modern Jazz Sextet (Rare 1956 UK
5-track LP on the Clef trumpeter Columbia label, featuring the Piano of
John Lewis & Bass of Percy Heath united with the Trumpet of Dizzy
Gillespie, the Alto of Sonny Stitt, Skeeter Beston Guitar & Charlie
Persip on Drums. This fantastic set opens with two Gillespie originals &
finishes with a tribute to Bird which was co-authored by Dizzy & Sonny
Stitt. The flimsy fully laminated scalloped flipback picture sleeve shows
a little wear, as is almost inevitable in fifty five years, but the
shelfwear is far less than normally seen & it is free from any splits or
tears. The vinyl too is in astonishing condition &, although obviously
played, shows just a few light hairline marks even now. A nice copy of

5-track deep groove mono LP on the yellow & black trumpeter
label, featuring Dizzy Gillespie, Sonny Stitt, John Lewis,
Skeeter Beston, Percy Heath & Charlie Persip, pasted picture
sleeve with David Stone Martin artwork. Due to its US
manufacture, the sleeve has succumbed to an inevitable seam
split [4" top right], which have been freshly & neatly tape
reinforced. The sleeve still holds up superbly, with all text
legible & a small UK catalogue number annotation on the rear,
presumably for reference. The vinyl is clean & in Excellent
condition with just a few mild paper hairlines not affecting
play MGN-1076)
