GENTLE GIANT Octopus (Rare 1972 UK Vertigo 'spiral' label 8-track vinyl LP, the formidable 4th album which marked the last involvement of eldest Shulman brother Phil and the first outing for 3rd drummer John Weathers who stayed with the band thereafter, engineered by Martin Rushent [T-Rex, Yes, Buzzcocks, Stranglers], this is a cult classic among prog fans. Includes the brain-melting complexity of 'Knots', full of interlocking vocal harmonies wedded to bold symphonic rock sounds. Thiscopy has been graded EX/EX+ as other than a small area with subtle light initals made in pen by the original owner near the top edge of the cover the picture sleeve remains in wonderful shape for its age, the spine and internal print remaining clearly legible, complete with die-cut 'swirl' inner in nice shape. The vinyl reveals a few moments of surface noise on playback but has very few surface marks and retains bright, clean labels - An excellent example of a veritable progressive masterpiece - very hard to find, especially in such well-kept condition!)
