The Promotional Album '69 - Near Mint

ROLLING STONES The Promotional Album '69 (This is by far the most famous and legendary Rolling Stones official promotional album available to date! Compiled by London Records in 1969, housed in a stunning, unique picture sleeve, and distributed exclusively to influential rock radio programmers prior to the release of Let It Bleed, it's a funky sample of tracks from the band's back catalogue. Not concentrating on just the hits, it features more obscure album tracks, and includes an 'arguably alternate' take of Love In Vain, available from no other source.) ** See 'More Info' for full details! **

Tracklisting & More Information

Only 400 copies of this mega-rarity were pressed -- 200 for the American market and 200 for the UK market. The UK issue had a UK Decca label LP disc (catalogue number RSM-1) issued in a US sleeve (with catalogue number RSD-1) whilst the American disc was issued on the blue London label with an RSD-1 catalogue number on both the sleeve and label.

The Vinyl has some very light barely visible surface marks (not scratches) that do not affect play, though there is one small scratch on track 4, side 2 (Sympathy For The Devil) which causes an audible click for approx 15 seconds. Apart from that minor defect, the audio quality is clear and crisp with near silent track breaks, free from noise or crackle.

Depending which sources you read, the version of Love In Vain is apparently an alternate take unavailable from any other source -- though this has often been disputed.

The picture on the sleeve was taken during the Let It Bleed recording sessions. It is a sepia toned shot of the band in the studio against a white background with the band name at the top and 'A Special Radio Promotion Album In Limited Edition Not For Sale' text.

Due to the white background there is some light age discolouration visible to the front of the sleeve - though not excessive. What is amazing is that this copy is free from cut-out holes -- and more notably sleeve splits, which are present in almost every other copy of this album that has surfaced for sale over the last 10 years!

The back of the sleeve shows a black and white picture of Mick in the centre. To the left is a list (complete with tracklistings) of all 13 US Stones albums released prior to Let It Bleed. The right hand side has the tracklisting (see below) and the following text...

"This album has been prepared for radio stations only by The Rolling Stones as a program aid. It was felt that most stations have in their library both volumes of The Rolling Stones Hits LP's (NPS-1 And NPS-3) and that one more LP, assembled especially for radio stations, could be of great help in programming. This LP, consisting of 14 Rolling Stones selections, spans the complete recorded history of The Rolling Stones beginning with one of their earliest recordings (Route 66) and ending with a brand new selection which will be included in The Rolling Stones' next LP (Love In Vain).

This LP, then, in combination with the other two hits LPs can provide radio stations of a comprehensive history of The Rolling Stones."
