Tracklisting & More Information

With only a small number of 260 deluxe & 1740 standard editions manufactured of this amazaing book, it is now virtually impossible to find copies, with most having disappeared long ago into private collections.

The book, pages & bindings on this copy are MINT, having been well protected by the outer slipcase box.

The slipcase box does have some light scuffing from being kept on a shelf but nothing obtrusive with the exception of one small 15mm x 5mm tear about half way up the outer front edge.

The book itself, as previously mentioned, is immaculate.

A golden opportunity to pick up one of the rarest Genesis issues at an advantageous price!

Further background details :-

Exile attracted more worldwide press than any other Genesis title, and continues to do so. The Deluxe copies disappeared almost overnight.

The Foreword is by Keith Richards, the central character in the book.

After photographing the Stones in the South of France, Dominique Tarlé lost touch with them for almost 30 years. Then, after publication of Exile, he was invited to join them on several occasions when they were recording in Paris and has since been able to renew old friendships. Everyone loves Exile it seems, and the story of the making of this book really has had a happy ending.

Exile is both a work of art and a signed limited edition book strictly limited to two thousand numbered copies. After completion of the final copy, the printing plates were destroyed rendering further impressions impossible. Each book is craftsman-printed on high quality matt art, quarter bound in leather and housed in a stylish outer slipcase box.

Exile features the exceptional photographs of celebrated French rock photographer Dominique Tarlé taken during his stay with Keith Richards and Anita Pallenberg at Villa Nellcôte during the summer of 1971. This extraordinary collection of images ranks amongst the finest and most revealing ever taken of The Rolling Stones or of any rock band. Remarkably, as a body of work it had remained unpublished for thirty years. The Stones are depicted working and relaxing in the South of France.

The original photographic prints from which the reproduction has been carefully made were hand-printed in a Paris studio renowned for its individual printing techniques, thereby ensuring prints of the highest definition with full tonal values.

This large-format photographic tome commences with illustrated introductions by both Dominique Tarlé and Robert Greenfield. Midway through the volume the reader will find an extended version of Robert Greenfield's historic 1971 interview with Keith Richards conducted at Villa Nellcôte. This 35,000-word interview is widely regarded as the best ever given by Keith providing revealing insights into the embryonic days of the Stones and much more. For the first time almost 4,000 additional words of this interview, never before published, are printed in Exile.
Further incisive and often humorous texts also appear throughout the book from seventeen contributors who were all part of the varied cast of characters at Nellcôte. They are: Anita Pallenberg, Bill Wyman, Mick Taylor, Dominique Tarlé, Andy Johns, Marshall Chess, Robert Greenfield, Georgia Bergman, June Shelley, Mick McKenna, Astrid Lundström, Sandy Lieberson, Trevor Churchill, Gretchen Parsons Carpenter, Glyn Johns, Dominic Lamblin and Rene d'Amico.
Additional contemporary quotes by Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts, Ian Stewart, Jimmy Miller and Nicky Hopkins and two further Greenfield articles complete this remarkable tale.

Visually stunning and an exhaustive study, Exile provides fascinating viewing and compelling reading in two hundred and forty eight 360mm x 250mm pages containing two hundred and eighty finely reproduced photographs in monochrome and full colour, and 90,000 words by key people. It will surely be regarded as the final word on the creation of one of the greatest rock albums of all time - Exile On Main St.
