Tracklisting & More Information

1. I Wanna Be Your Man
2. Stoned

I Wanna Be Your Man was the 'Stones first single to be released in Japan, originally issued in 1964. This issue was released in 1967 and features a different picture sleeve design to the original, depicting all five band members in classic '3 seated - 2 standing' pose, against a printed red background.

The 1967 release had two print runs. The first was issued with a ¥370 price code with the same pink sleeve design as the '64 original; for the second print run this unique alternative design was made, increased to the new market rate of ¥400 and, as fewer copies were actually made, it is by far the rarest of the two editions. The yellow London label also had a redesign during this period and the ¥400 release features a slightly different London logo to both the ¥370 and original '64 ¥330 edition.

Manufactured by the King Record Co. Ltd. the 38-year-old vinyl is in Excellent condition. There are minor audible crackles on the intro to each side but the record plays fine, without skips, jumps or any major flaws. The yellow labels are in excellent condition; no tears or paper loss - just a minor circular dirt impression around the raised ridge of the large centre hole. Written by Paul McCartney, this label actually credits "Lemon, McCarthy" as the song writers!

The picture sleeve is in superb condition. Bright, vivid print on the colourful front, with no evidence of fading in the solid red block of background printing. The gatefold-style picture sleeve opens to reveal a brief biography on page 2, printed in Japanese hiragana and katakana script. Page 3 has English lyrics printed for both tracks, Stoned being just 5 lines long! The back cover depicts 10 alternative single releases that were available at the time, commonly known as an "ad-back" cover. In the bottom right corner is the all-important ¥400 price marker.

Finally, the record is complete with its blue flipback London Records inner sleeve, correct for this period pressing.

As the rarest variant of this 2nd issue single, this is a superb example and would make a wonderful addition to any Stones collection. This record simply does not turn up every day - even Japanese collectors may not know of this ¥400 sleeve variation!
