The Beatles Collection - Silver Award

THE BEATLES The Beatles Collection (Official 1979 Japanese competition winner only Silver 7" award disc of the track Let It Be, mounted on 9" x 10½" wooden backplate with silver metal edges. When 'The Beatles Collection' 13-LP boxset was firstissued in 1979, initial copies came with a competition entry form and this amazing award was the prize if you were fortunate enough to be one of the lucky winners. This almost Forty Five year old award remains in an Excellent condition, and the first example we have seen in almost 10 years. See 'more info' for plaque dedication details)

This beautiful little commemorative award from 1979 is in Excellent condition. The silver plating on awards from this period often deteriorates with time (and inappropriate cleaning...) but this disc is still fully coated.

The silver dedication plaque is printed in apple green, and reads:

THE BEATLES COLLECTION
Presented to you in commemoration of
immortal The BEATLES
Apple Frebruary 5th. 1979 EMI

The overall design is simplicity itself. The silver-plated disc is set above the frame and gives the impression of the disc floating - similar in style to American 'floater' awards of this period. The dark green unsliced Apple label contrasts nicely with the subtle tones of the wooden backplate and the dazzling silver of the disc, frame edge and dedication plaque.

It's impossible to know how many of these were actually sent out to competition winners - this is only the third one we've found in over 20 years, so it's fair to say there can't be that many of them available on the collectors' market today.

Given that this was not available to buy in any shops at the time, and the only way to get one was by entering the competition and hoping that it was your lucky day, it's our pleasure to be able to offer this example for sale now.
