Tracklisting & More Information

This was the first release of Please Please Me in Stereo in Australia. There were three prior issues but all were Mono only.
This was released, along with a Mono counterpart, on the 9th April 1964.

The labels are silver on black with 'banner' Stereo print and are of a similar design to the UK gold on black label. A curio of the Australian labels are the inclusion of grammatically correct commas in Please Please Me, Love Me Do & Baby It's You.

The sleeve is a unique variant with blue text sleeve notes & a gold 'Stereo' sticker. The reason for the blue text was because The Beatles were largely unknown in Australia at the time & blue text was cheaper than black, EMI being unwilling to spend more money on a relatively unknown group !
Another quirk of the Australian sleeve is that the front image is brighter than the UK variant, as Union rules forbade the use of the UK artwork directy, so this was taken from a photograph of the first UK sleeve and the 'Angus McBean' credit can be seen at the bottom right of the artwork. Being a photograph of a UK sleeve, a degree of colour compensation was applied to the negative, leading to this 'bright' version.

Condition:

The sleeve shows just a little light shelfwear and is free from writing or splits with all text and spine still clearly readable. Edge scuffing and discolouration remain at a minimum, making this probably one of the best of these flimsy sleeves that you are likely to find.

The solid heavyweight vinyl remains in excellent condition with very little sign of play. There is one small inaudible blemish on 'Anna' but upon playtesting this was found to have no effect at all on play and background noise and burring are at a minimum.

A gem of a copy of this very rare first Australian stereo issue of The Beatles' debut release.
