GRIEL MARCUS Invisible Republic (1997 UK 286-page hardback book, with picture dust cover, which attempts to unravel the mystery & content of the scores of tapes recorded by Bob Dylan & The Band in Woodstock, New York, in 1967. First let looseonthe world as the 'Little White Wonder' bootlegs & subsequently released officially as 'The Basement Tapes', it is now known from follow up releases & further research that there were many more things committed to tape as part of a secret project. These tapes were never meant to be on general release & were, for the most part, a combination of Bob's reaction to the hostile reception he got with his first electric tour & the recovery from the bad motorcycle accident he suffered. This book makes compelling reading and documents a small but important period in Bob's life & work in great detail, but also with compelling narrative - Recommended)
