This stunning item was signed on Thursday 28th February 1963 when The Helen Shapiro Package tour came to Granada Cinema in Shrewsbury. This was the Beatles first nationwide tour of the UK and they were billed fourth in a six act line-up which was headlined by the 16 year old Helen Shapiro who had been voted best British female in both 1961 and 1962.

These autographs were recently inherited by the family of a woman whose father worked at the cinema back in 1963. The man was therefore able to take his daughter backstage where she was lucky enough to meet each of the band and have them sign her autograph book.

The autographs themselves are very good examples from early 1963. By April the signatures of both John and George would change, George would 'finish' the capital G and Johns 'J' would change significantly. In addition to his name Paul has added (Beatles)

There are 3 faint tape stains along the top of the page but these do not encroach on the autographs.

1963 was a the best year to obtain genuine autographs as by 1964 Beatlemania was in full swing and it was difficult to get close to the boys so Neil Aspinall and Mal Evans did a lot of signing for them.

Also included is an 8" x 10" black and white photograph featuring the band circa 1964 in mid performance. Though the picture is from a different year to the signatures it would make a nice display piece should the lucky purchaser choose to have the autographs and photograph professionally mounted and framed.

For Trivia Fans

It is well documented that on this day, during the coach journey to Shrewsbury with the full Shapiro entourage that Paul and John wrote From Me To You and recorded it 5 days later at Abbey Road. One of the other performers, Kenny Lynch, branded the song rubbish [!] but later performed another Beatles composition, Misery, after Helen Shapiro turned it down.
