The album was recorded during a weekend in May 1968 at Pye Studios in London & engineered by Barry Ainsworth. This Japanese issue is by far the rarest edition, released in April 1969 in very small quantities. Subsequent pressings reverted to the fairly familiar US cover design. This Nippon Grammophon pressing was the only issue to have this superb & unique gatefold sleeve with full Japanese biography & lyrics printed inside the gatefold. This fantastic album is a true centrepiece item for any serious Deep Purple collection - Your mate down the road almost certainly WON'T have one. If, by some miracle, he is one of the very very few possessing a copy of this rare edition, his copy certainly won't hold a candle to this one.
