JOE ZAWINUL Zawinul (Original 1971 UK Atlantic plum & red label 5-track stereo LP, from the creative engine behind Weather Report &Miles Davis' electric years. Comes housed in a US pasted laminate picture sleeve with the UK Polydor sticker ontheback. The cover [VG+] shows a few scuffs with a little fraying to the paper around the edge & laminate peeling [date annotation on back] & the vinyl is in Excellent condition with just minor evidence of play. Opening with Doctor Honoris Causa dedicated to Herbie Hancock for his Honorary Doctorate at Grinnell University, Zawinul doubles up with Herbie on the keys [with Woody Shaw on trumpet] to create an impressionistic sound painting, a work that, in its way, compliments Miles' In A Silent Way recorded a year before - Zawinul expands on that very number on side 1, and with tape-speed manipulation and Echoplex devices deployed to vast effect, across the whole of the LP, he produces a rich and adventurous affair worthy of the attention of any serious jazz-rock fan.
