Tracklisting: Play is the fifth studio album by American electronic musician Moby. It was released on May 17, 1999, through Mute Records internationally and V2 Records in North America. Recording of the album began in mid-1997, following the release of Moby's fourth album, Animal Rights (1996), which deviated from his electronica style; Moby's goal for Play was to return to electronica, blending downtempo with blues and roots music samples. Originally intended to be his final record, the album was recorded at Moby's home studio in Manhattan.
While some of Moby's earlier work had garnered critical and commercial success within the electronic dance music scene, Play was both a critical success and a commercial phenomenon. Initially issued to lackluster sales, it topped numerous album charts months after its release and was certified platinum in more than 20 countries. The album introduced Moby to a worldwide mainstream audience, not only through a large number of hit singles that helped the album to dominate worldwide charts for two years, but also through unprecedented licensing of its songs in films, television shows, and commercials. Tracklisting: Label Design
They are of the classic sixties black with yellow 'Parlophone' & logo design, all text in silver. The labels have "The Gramophone Co Ltd" perimeter text & "Sold In The UK" text across the centre, the composer credit is after the lead vocalist, indicating third press. The sleeves were the same between first & third presses and list the composer before the lead vocalist.
Track 4, side 2 is spelt Doctor Robert.
Condition
The Garrod & Lofthouse front laminated flipback picture sleeve has secure flipbacks, very little in the way of shelfwear and a very clean reverse with just a very small but very neat annotation down the right hand side. The spine is clearly readable and laminate creasing is to a minimum.
The vinyl remains in nice condition with just the odd light paper scuff or surface hairline visible upon close inspection.
The KT tax code is visible on the side one label and there are just light spindle marks around the centre hole and a small amount of wear to show for over fifty five years.
A non mint but very acceptable copy of this classic album at an advantageous price.
