PINK FLOYD The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn (Rare 1967 UK first pressing 11-track mono LP on the blue & black Columbia label. This copy comes in the second variant front laminated flipback picture sleeve, with 'File Under Popular' printed on thetop flipback in the right corner and with '6709 TPS Printed and made by Ernest J. Day & Co. Ltd., London SX 6157 / SCX 6157' at the bottom SX6157)
See 'More Info' for further details of this classic release...<
#Top 500 Greatest Albums Of All Time/FONT>

Tracklisting: Background & Condition The album was released on August 5th, 1967 and one month later it was released in stereo. The album's title comes from the title of the seventh chapter of Kenneth Grahame's 'The Wind in the Willows'! The mono mixes of each track were done at separate sessions, as it was the main format. The whole stereo album mix was a one day thing, so this really is the definitive mix of this classic album with significant differences to the stereo mix. Subtle changes in effect abound, moment to moment gradations that can alter the flow of an entire track. For example, Syd Barrett’s whoops and shouts on 'Take Up Thy Stethoscope And Walk' are simply dripping with delay and the environment constantly morphs, unlike the stereo version which is 'fixed'. The coda of 'Flaming' is shorter than on the stereo version, as is 'The Gnome'. There's a whole layer of organ missing on the stereo mix at the start of 'Interstellar Overdrive' with a bongo fade-out and seriously different parts in 'Pow R Toch H'. As the engineer said many years later "The omission of things in the stereo mixes was really just because of the time - or lack of it - spent over these" Mono was the de-facto standard and the stereo mix, like 'Sgt Pepper', was pretty much cobbled together as an afterthought. The Sleeve The Ernest J. Day & Co. sleeve reveals light shelfwear, with a little light ringwear and light discolouration to the unlaminted back. The flipbacks are nice & secure with the spine being perfectly legible with just a couple of light creases in the laminate, the print remains bright, vivid & unblemished, with 'File Under Popular' printed in the top right on the back & '6709' release date bottom right. There are no rips or splits, the unlaminated back has just a little age discoloration. vinyl The labels are the blue and black Columbia design with "The Gramophone Co Ltd" and "Sold In UK Subject To...." text. The matrix numbers are:- XAX 3419-2 / XAX 3420-1 There are a few spindle marks and have a number written in black on both. The vinyl has been professionally cleaned & played. Side One shows just a couple of wispy marks leaving it Excellent, whilst Side Two has a few more noticeable hairlines & scuffs, although still looks overall very clean, we have graded it VG. All in all, still a very handsome example! Thanks due to the superior quality of the 1960's vinyl pressings, when played the effect is minimised. A great chance to grab a respectable MONO issue for a great price! Tracklisting 1. Astronomy Dominé 2. Lucifer Sam 3. Matilda Mother 4. Flaming 5. Pow R Toc H 6. Take Up Thy Stethoscope And Walk 7. Interstellar Overdrive 8. The Gnome 9. Chapter 24 10. Scarecrow 11. Bike

Pepper parody fully laminated internal flipback gatefold picture sleeve. The sleeve shows creasing/discolouration to the edges & spine, the faint remains of a name to inside flipback, still with a decent sheen even after fifty years whilst the vinyl is graded VG+ with light hairlines on playing surface. A very acceptable play copy of this superb album VLP9199)

Tracklisting: 01. Are You Hung Up 02. Who Need The Peace Corps 03. Concentration Moon 04. Mon & Dad 05. Bow Tie Daddy 06. Harry, You're A Beast 07. What's The Ugliest Part Of Your Body? 08. Take Your Clothes Off When You Dance 16. What's The Ugliest Part Of Your Body? (Reprise) 17. Mother People 18. The Chrome Plated Megaphone Of Destiny A few notes that may interest you ... The mix on this album differs in many respects from its stereo & later LP releases and generally exhibits more clarity, albeit heavily censored. The 'Heavily Censored' Version In addition to the censorship that took place on the 'normal censored' releases: In Who Needs the Peace Corps? the line "I will love the police as they kick the shit out of me on the street" was cut. In Absolutely Free the word "balling" was cut in the line "I won't do publicity balling for you anymore" & the words "flower power sucks" were cut. In Let's Make the Water Turn Black, the lines "And I still remember Mama with her apron and her pad, feeding all the boys at Ed's Cafe/ Whizzing and pasting and pooting through the day ... " were cut, but the lyrics are still on the sleeve. Curiously, the line about the Velvet Underground that was removed from subsequent releases is still there. The 'Normal Censored' Version had the following obvious edits: In Harry, You're a Beast, the lines "Don't come in me, in me" were censored and played partially forwards, partially backwards, and shuffled. The lyrics on the sleeve read "censored, censored ...". In Mother People, the lines "Better look around before you say you don't care, Shut your f*ckin' mouth about the length of my hair, How would you survive If you were alive, Shitty little person?" were cut and replaced with "Lemme take a minute and tell you my plan, Lemme take a minute and tell who I am, If it doesn't show, Think you better know, I'm another person". The cut lines were played backwards in the track Hot Poop on the 'normal censored' versions, but even there the F. word is cut. The lyrics on all of the sleeves read: "the verse that really goes here has been censored out & recorded backwards in a special section at the end of side one".
