 | YAZOO Upstairs At Eric's (Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab
Silver Label Series special limited edition 11-track
vinyl LP, mastered on the Gain 2 Ultra Analog System. A
standard-setting mélange of smoky blues singing, jazzy
arrangements, disco-tinged beats, and dancefloor vibes, the
smash debut fits equally as well at a late-night club as it does
in a living room. Individually gold-foil numbered picture
sleeve, sealed inside its perforated loose bag. Recommended)
Tracklisting: AN 80S LANDMARK: EX-DEPECHE MODE MEMBER VINCE CLARKE AND VOCALIST ALISON MOYET CREATE SYNTHPOP CLASSIC
The 1980s will forever be remembered for electropop sensations, yet few, if any, are quite as sensational as Yaz's Upstairs at Eric's. A standard-setting mélange of smoky blues singing, jazzy arrangements, disco-tinged beats, and dancefloor vibes, the smash debut fits equally as well at a late-night club as it does in a living room, where the record's complexity and exoticism takes listeners hostage. No wonder the 1982 landmark remains one of the decade's most essential albums.
This numbered edition Silver Label LP breathes with a decongested openness, textural richness, and tonal palette never before experienced on previous analog or digital editions. Alison Moyet's inimitable vocals, such a huge part of the record's appeal, are dramatically enhanced, her sensual timbre, bittersweet crooning, and knockout range now encompassing the full frequency spectrum and projecting outward in a way that traverses the flatness of the original pressings.
Indeed, her bluesy deliveries are at once elegant and exuberant, and give collaborative partner Vince Clarke free range to construct beat architectures that encompass freewheeling disco, house music, uptempo dance, and chilled-out pop. The former Depeche Mode member also layers on elegant keyboard melodies, establishing contagious hooks and electronic-laced landscapes that preceded the techno explosion and do so with a cooler elegance. Tape loops, random field-noise dialogues, and synth-stroked bass notes add to what's nothing less than a perfect collusion of moody paranoia and soulful warmth.
While a cousin to synth-pop LPs by the likes of the Eurythmics, Soft Cell, OMD, and Depeche Mode, Yaz's Upstairs at Eric's is singular for its chemistry between Moyet and Clarke – and an insouciant batch of songs high on emotion, style, and substance.

 | BOB DYLAN Bob Dylan (Circa 1964 UK CBS pressing of the
1962 debut 13-track mono vinyl LP on a rough textured plain
orange label, front laminated picture sleeve with rounded
flipbacks. See 'More Info' for details ... BPG62022)
Tracklisting: 01. You're No Good
02. Talkin' New York
03. In My Time of Dyin'
04. Man of Constant Sorrow
05. Fixin' To Die
06. Pretty Peggy-O
07. Highway 51
08. Gospel Plow
09. Baby Let Me Follow You Down
10. House of The Rising Sun
11. Freight Train Blues
12. Song to Woody
13. See That My Grave is Kept Clean
Label : -
We predict this to be a CBS pressing once CBS acquired their own plant in 1964. Prior to this, the album was a Philips press.
The labels are the early rough textured & plain orange variety. The first track is incorrectly listed as 'She's No Good' on the label & 'You're No Good' on the sleeve. The Philips pressings have 'Recording First Published 1962' print to the right, whereas the CBS variation just has '(p)1962', found here.
The labels are bright & clean with no writing or tears & minimal sign of play by the centre hole.
The matrices are machine stamped & end '1A-1'/'1B-1'.
Condition :-
This is a stunning one previous owner copy. The sleeve retains nice, crisp & clean laminate with just a little corner scuffing and scuffing to the opening edge. There is no writing or tears & all text is as clear as the day of first print. The rounded three-fold flipbacks are secure with 'CBS is a Trademark of the Columbia Broadcasting System' text to the lower bottom right of the rear, also confirming a CBS press, we predict from circa '64. The rear panel shows some inevitable age discolouration but all text is clearly legible.
The vinyl is in beautiful condition with just some faint spindle marks around the label centre to indicate play. With amazing sonics, the vinyl easily grades as Excellent with merely a very paper hairlines detectable under a bright light, in no way affecting play. A very nice, Excellent example indeed.
This CBS (and not Philips) variant may well have been pressed prior to 1964 by Oriole, if a hardcore Dylan collector can confirm, we will stand corrected. Either way, this is a wonderful Excellent copy of this essential Dylan debut & comes highly recommended. |
