"If you're a serious hardcore Coltrane fan, I would opt for the UHQR because I think this one sounds best in terms of depth, dimension, soundstage and detail. It is an amazing UHQR version." — Kenny's Audiophile Record Reviews
"Coltrane's closely miked sax sounds vividly present, a bit more so on this UHQR compared to the others, and Tyner's piano, while not brilliantly recorded (in the RVG style) sounds a bit more solid and grounded in space on the UHQR compared to RKS's 33 1/3 cut. ... Does this edition beat the RKS 33 1/3 edition? Yes. By leaps and bounds? No, but it is better. Is the presentation superior? Yes. By leaps and bounds." — Music = 10/11; Sound = 9/11 — Michael Fremer, TrackingAngle.com

The intense passionate Coltrane interpretation of standards such as "All Or Nothing At All," "What's New," "It's Easy To Remember" and the Sinatra classic "Nancy (With The Laughing Face)" are the essence of Ballads. When asked why attempt such an undertaking, Coltrane replied "Variety."
While it may have been a short detour by Trane before he exploded off into the nether regions of jazz music a few years later, it is still a fantastic document of one of the premier jazz groups of the 1960s.
Recorded December 21, 1961 and September 18 & November 13, 1962 at Rudy Van Gelder Studios.
"It's impossible to sleepwalk through tracks like "You Don't Know What Love Is" and "I Wish I Knew" and impart them with even a fraction of the emotional heft that the Quartet achieves. This is the type of jazz album in which the music just washes over the listener with it's restrained grace and beauty, and while it may not have the adventurousness that some listeners think Trane should have had each and every time he recorded, I'd say it shows off a side of him that only makes us appreciate his more bold and daring albums even more." — The Jazz Record

 | ROLLING STONES Their Satanic Majesties Request (1967 UK
first issue fourth label variant 10-track deep groove MONO LP
on the light blue, unboxed Decca label, housed in a superb
lenticular 3-D laminated gatefold picture sleeve with red
psychedelic inner. Note, this is a true mono mix indicated by
the 'P' matrices in the run-outs, & not a later stereo fold down
to mono pressing. See 'more info' for further details...
TXL103)
Tracklisting: History:
The sixth release by the Rolling Stones was recorded over a number of sporadic sessions amidst a blur of court appearances, prison sentences, & psychedelic drugs. Arguably one of the Stones' more 'out there' affairs, it received mixed reviews at the time, & remains a controversial release in their back catalogue.
Matrix Numbers & Mono Mix
Side 1 - ARL-8126-1P
Side 2 - ARL-8127-P1
The original master tape was mixed two times, the first one was used for mono records only and the second one was used both for mono and stereo records. The two mixes, in this instance, used for pressing the mono record can be identified by the matrix number.
As the matrix numbers on this copy contain the 'P' identifier, it confirms a first, true mono mix. Later 'T' matrices were in fact the stereo recording folded down to one channel to create a mono sound.
Take the song “The Lantern” for example. There is a bell tolling in the beginning of the song. A true mono record has the bell tolling three times before the music starts. A fold down from stereo to mono AND a real stereo LP has the bell tolling two times before the music starts.
Sleeve:
This is the first issue sleeve, with the mono text on the bottom right hand corner of the back of the sleeve, later issues had this printed on the top right hand corner. Also worth noting that if you look closely in the 3D part of the sleeve you can pick out images of Ringo Starr, John Lennon, Paul McCartney & George Harrison lurking amongst the psychedelia. Good luck, it took me a while to spot them!
The red flame inner is present & correct, with no writing and has a small tear at the opening on the tops. The cover grades a nice VG+ with a small chip on the corner of the 3D difraction grating on the front. The maze inside has been attempted and each corner annotated 'Stones'.
Labels & Vinyl:
The labels reveal some spindle wear to indicate play.
The heavyweight vinyl grades VG/VG- & has been professionally cleaned on a top of the line Matrix machine. There are a number of cosmetic scuffs & hairline marks here & there but very little that would upset the mono playback in any noticeable way; there is a small mark on Gomper which results in a few clicks. By no means mint, this is a worthy collection filler & a true first mono press at a knockdown price.

5. Sing This All Together (See What Happens)
6. She's A Rainbow
7. The Lantern
