A FEW OF THE MOST RECENT ITEMS WE WANT...
 | FRANK ZAPPA We're Only In It For The Money (1968 UK first
issue 18-track mono LP with 'Sold in The UK' label text, a
particularly tough pressing to find, featuring track separated
sides and the 'heavily censored' version of the album, superb
reverse Sgt. Pepper parody fully laminated internal flipback
gatefold picture sleeve. The sleeve shows
creasing/discolouration to the edges & spine, the faint
remains of a name to inside flipback, still with a decent sheen
even after fifty years whilst the vinyl is graded VG+ with light
hairlines on playing surface. A very acceptable play copy of
this superb album VLP9199)

A few notes that may interest you ...
The mix on this album differs in many respects from its stereo & later LP releases and generally exhibits more clarity, albeit heavily censored.
The 'Heavily Censored' Version
In addition to the censorship that took place on the 'normal censored' releases:
In Who Needs the Peace Corps? the line "I will love the police as they kick the shit out of me on the street" was cut.
In Absolutely Free the word "balling" was cut in the line "I won't do publicity balling for you anymore" & the words "flower power sucks" were cut.
In Let's Make the Water Turn Black, the lines "And I still remember Mama with her apron and her pad, feeding all the boys at Ed's Cafe/ Whizzing and pasting and pooting through the day ... " were cut, but the lyrics are still on the sleeve.
Curiously, the line about the Velvet Underground that was removed from subsequent releases is still there.
The 'Normal Censored' Version had the following obvious edits:
In Harry, You're a Beast, the lines "Don't come in me, in me" were censored and played partially forwards, partially backwards, and shuffled. The lyrics on the sleeve read "censored, censored ...".
In Mother People, the lines "Better look around before you say you don't care, Shut your f*ckin' mouth about the length of my hair, How would you survive If you were alive, Shitty little person?" were cut and replaced with "Lemme take a minute and tell you my plan, Lemme take a minute and tell who I am, If it doesn't show, Think you better know, I'm another person". The cut lines were played backwards in the track Hot Poop on the 'normal censored' versions, but even there the F. word is cut.
The lyrics on all of the sleeves read: "the verse that really goes here has been censored out & recorded backwards in a special section at the end of side one". |
