| ENNIO MORRICONE Segreto Songbook: The Maestro's Hidden
Songs For Cinema 1962-1973 (2023 UK/EU limited edition
21-track black vinyl double album 2-LP, revealing the
pop-psych, dark-cinematic and avant-garde sounds that
characterized the original collection, with, in addition, a few
swerves into the folk-rock of the time, between poignant
ballads and elegant chansons. Gatefold picture sleeve, factory
sealed. Recommended)
Tracklisting: During an extraordinary career which spanned more than six decades, world-renowned Italian composer Ennio Morricone created over 600 original compositions and a unique and unmistakable style, blending avant-garde solutions with the finest pop-psych attitude. Marking would have marked the Maestro’s 95th birthday (10th November 2023), CAM Sugar presents a new collection of little-known gems composed by Morricone, that stands complimentary to 2020’s Morricone Segreto collection: Morricone Segreto Songbook. Proof that even one of the most celebrated composers of our time can still hold secrets yet to be unveiled.
This anthology was born out of a desire to delve into Morricone’s cinematic song production, to unearth some hidden gems that have been more or less forgotten or passed over in the background, despite the innovative level of the writing and the modernity of the orchestration.
Ennio Morricone has been, without a doubt, the most important Italian artist of the last 60 years and possibly the most well-known film music composer of the 20th century. Behind the mainstream Morricone hugely celebrated by critics and acclaimed by his audience, there is a hidden Morricone, a Morricone Segreto: an eccentric, underground genius who used his refined education, to implant cultured materials in a daily, popular context. This side of the Maestro that is mostly unknown to the broader audience, but deeply appreciated and influential for so many artists and connoisseurs.
“Ennio Morricone, as far as I am concerned, is my favorite composer. And when I say ‘favorite composer,’ I don’t mean movie composer ... I’m talking about Mozart, I’m talking about Beethoven, I’m talking about Schubert. That’s who I’m talking about.” — QUENTIN TARANTINO |
| ROLLING STONES The Rolling Stones No. 2 (1965 UK first
issue fourth label variant 12-track mono vinyl LP on the deep
groove unboxed Decca logo label, front laminated flipback
picture sleeve with the controversial 'blind man' text on the
back LK4661) See 'More Info' for details on condition ...
Tracklisting: The group's second British album actually appeared after their second US LP, mostly owing to the fact that the British rock & roll audience wasn't focused on the long-player as a medium (Singles and EPs were the driving force of the business in England then).
It uses the same David Bailey cover shot that had graced the US issued '12 X 5' album two months earlier, but only four songs (Under The Boardwalk, Suzie Q, Grown Up Wrong and Time Is On My Side) overlap on the two albums.
Rather, Rolling Stones No. 2 offered seven songs that weren't to make it out in America until four months later on 'The Rolling Stones Now!' It also includes one of the group's best blues covers, their version of Muddy Waters' I Can't Be Satisfied, which wasn't released in America until 1973 and features some killer slide playing by Brian Jones. The U.K. LP was originally released in mono only & took forever to come out on CD in this form.
The original cover design found here carries sleeve notes that include the text: "If you don't have bread, see that blind man, knock him on the head, steal his wallet and low and behold you have the loot, if you put in the boot, good, another one sold!"
Not one of Mr Loog Oldham's wisest lyrical outpourings and they naturally caused uproar in January 1965, even to the extent of being debated in the UK Parliament. This was a bit too much for Decca and an alternate version of the back artwork was hastily prepared & the few they had left in the factories were overpasted with the new artwork. Most first issue sleeves continued to carry the text as they were already in the shops.
The labels are red with unboxed, open Decca logo and ffrr 'ear', with the deep grooves that were omitted from later pressings. This is the second of the fourth label variant of this early design that we know of, with just the 'Made In England' print along the top. This variant adds label credits below the group name at the bottom. The 'BIEM/NCB' logo is to the left of the spindle hole.
The matrix numbers are machine stamped into the 'dead wax' areas. They are as follows:
Side One XARL-6619-1A
Side Two XARL-6620-1A
The sleeve shows just a little light shelfwear with nice, clear laminate.
There is a small amount of laminte lift at the spine and a couple of creases.
The back shows just a little age yellowing from handling, although nothing to excess.
The heavyweight vinyl remains in superb condition and has retained its sheen. Upon close inspection, there are a couple of light hairlines visible but these are purely cosmetic and have no effect whatsoever on play. These Decca discs always perform outstandingly well & come highly recommended.
