THE GREAT ZOOT SIMS Down Home (Impossibly Rare Pair of
Single-Sided Test Pressings for the 1961 UK 8-track mono
LP, also starring Dave McKenna (piano), George Tucker (bass) &
Dannie Richmond (drums). The Parlophone labels are custom black on
white with 'Not For Sale' print. The artist, album title & song details are
annotated in blue pen on the labels' playing side of both discs, & the
matrices in the run-outs are machine stamped: BCP 12 6051A-1N/
BCP 12 6051B-1N. This incredible one-off rarity originates from the
private collection of a former staff member for Dobells record shop in
Charing Cross, untouched for over half a century. Only a small
handful of these were pressed to test the sonics & there can be few
surviving copies left. Complete with the 'Emitex' inner bag, which is
annotated with all the matrix & recordings details, the two vinyl discs
reveal almost no signs of play & appear Near Mint PMC1169)

ZOOT SIMS QUARTET Zoot (1957 US first issue 8-track deep
groove mono LP on a black & silver Argo label, the very crux
of Cool Jazz on record, cut in NYC, 12th October 1956 with
Johnny Williams on Piano, Knobby Totah on Bass & Gus
Johnson on Drums, pasted picture sleeve with historic tape
reinforcement at each closed edge. The cover shows just one
or two tiny half inch paper splits at the edges or corners & all
text is clearly legible. The vinyl is super clean & plays
beautifully. We would grade the disc a conservative VG/VG+
as there are just a few faint paper hairline scuffs not
interfering with play. Recommended LP-708)

ZOOT SIMS Goes To Jazzville (Super rare 1957 US 8-track
deep groove mono LP, on the black & silver Dawn label, also
starring Jerome Lloyd on trumpet, John Williams on piano,
Nabil Totah or Bill Anthony on bass & Gus Johnson, drums,
pasted laminate picture sleeve. Due to its US manufacture,
the sleeve has succumbed to two inevitable seam splits [5"
top right, 2" bottom], which have been freshly & neatly tape
reinforced. The sleeve otherwise appears as fresh as the day
it was pressed& must have been carefully stored all this time
to achieve such a feat. The heavyweight vinyl is clean &
easily meets an Excellent grade with minimal evidence of play
