STEVE REICH & THE KRONOS QUARTET Different Trains (Scarce 1989 German first press 6-track LP, a stunning three-movement piece for string quartet & tape, a novel experiment at the time, using recorded speech as a source for melodies. Reich even transfered the speech recordings into a digital sampling keyboard (a Casio FZ-1), & won the Grammy Award for Best Classical Contemporary Composition that year. Never fear Pat Metheny fans, Electric Counterpoint on the other side is equally as special & was later performed in concert as a tribute by Radiohead's Jonny Greenwood.
