JAN DUKES DE GREY Mice And Rats In The Loft (1971 UK
3-track vinyl LP, fantastic progressive psychedelic opus which is
redolent of the pysch folk of Fresh Maggots and Forest, but then
dips into Soft Machine for extended instrumentals with a bucket
load of wah-wah and wailing vocals. Gatefold laminated cover
with inner plastic bag attached inside the gatefold. The sleeve
does have a one inch tear on the top-right hand corner which
has been repaired, otherwise there is only light signsof edge
wear and minor laminate rippling visible. The vinyl has some very
light mottling on the disc where the vinyl has reacted with the
plastic foam inner, but as this is only the second copy we have
seen in thirty years hunting, finding it at all is a small miracle!
Despite the cosmetic wear, the labels indicate light play only.
Truly a holy grail in a genre which is becoming more & more
collectable TRA234)

JAN DUKES DE GREY Strange Terrain (2010 issue UK 19-track CD
album - Responsible for two of the strangest, most beguiling acid folk
albums of the early 1970s, Jan Dukes de Grey have long been a
legendary name on the prog / folk / psych collector circuit. Their 2nd
album seemed to be the final word on the band. However, during
conversations with arch-Duke Derek Noy, it transpired that Jan Dukes
had actually gone on to record a third album, 'Strange Terrain', that
had failed to appear at the time, largely due to the emergence of
punk. Recorded across 1976-77 under a production deal with Pink
Floyd [Roger Waters produced and mixed two of the tracks], 'Strange
Terrain' retains the boundless spirit of adventure and idiosyncratic
approach to music-making that characterised their earlier albums, and
is a vital addition to Jan Dukes de Grey's small but fascinating body of
recorded work. This 2010 edition comes expanded with 7 Bonus
Recordings including an alternate version of 'Free Flow', the
novelty single 'Standing In A Little 'Ole' [issued under the band's
punk-era pseudonym Rip Snorter] and more)
