Tracklisting & More Information

With Frank Zappa's unerring sense of 'History In The Making' and love of social documentary, both in his own work & that of others, it was near inevitable that he should document the phenomenon that were The GTO's.
Miss Pamela & Miss Christine also happened to be little Moon's babysitters, so Frank received most of the stories first hand & decided that they really needed to be preserved for posterity.
He gave The GTO's a timetable for composing a selection of songs to be included on a potential album, but it was still meant to be a free form expression of a never to be repeated time and a place where liberation & naïveté went hand in hand in almost equal measures. This is documented literally by Pamela des Barres in her excellent book 'I'm With The Band', which itself is based on her personal diaries from the period.

The backing musicians / celebrities involved are certainly no lightweights, with various Mothers participating, along with Jeff Beck, Russ Titelman, Ry Cooder, Lowell George, Davy Jones, Rodney Bingenheimer & even a young Rod Stewart.

The GTO's were always a loosely knit conglomerate, originally calling themselves 'The Laurel Canyon Ballet Company', as their primary form of expression was usually dancing at celebrated Los Angeles nightspots in front of their favourite bands. That said, they did actually perform some of the album material at a gig at The Shrine Auditorium which received good reviews, but their very essence was their temporary status, so this was rarely repeated.

As an album, it has its moments, & it is certainly dripping with charm & cute.
As a historical document it is probably as important a statement as any that have been made before or since by anybody that was there at the time.

Thanks, Frank.
