Concerto For Group And Orchestra - VG Rock Age obi

DEEP PURPLE & THE ROYAL PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA Concerto For Group And Orchestra (Rare 1970 original Japanese Warner-Pioneer issue black vinyl stereo LP. With gleaming vinyl this near MINT condition LP has seen very little play over the past 36 years, the green label showing minimal traces of use around the spindle area [in fact side 1 has only 1 spindle mark and side 2 has none!]. The heavyweight gatefold picture sleeve still contains the original insert and 'Now Rock Age' inner advertising sleeve and the very rare 'Rock Age' shaped obi-strip. The sleeve on this copy has only a few signs of age, the obi is in VG condition as has some minor damage on the front including a sticker mark which a past ower has done a good job of patching plus a small nic at the bottom; as already mentioned the vinyl is outstanding - still a great copy of this rare hard to find release P-8093W)

In chronological terms this original LP is actually a second issue. The very first Japanese pressings of Concerto For Group And Orchestra were made by Toshiba Musical Industries, on red wax, but these were very quickly withdrawn after Toshiba were told they did not have permission to release the album. This created an instant rarity and in the past 20 years we've only seen 2 copies of the Toshiba pressing, and the one copy we had was actually a test pressing! The other was so expensive (into the £ thousands!) that we didn't buy it.

Whilst the Toshiba pressing is probably the most desirable issue to get hold of, this original Warner-Pioneer pressing is still the first official release and, with the square shaped 'Rock Age' obi, it's still near impossible to find complete and in near Mint condition. At over 30 years of age, it's not actually the record that's the hard part to get; as usual it's the all-important slim strip of paper that makes an original 1970 issue with the 'Rock Age' obi such a scarce item to find.
