A FEW OF THE MOST RECENT ITEMS WE WANT...
 | DANGERDOOM (DANGER MOUSE & MF DOOM) The Mouse And
The Mask (2023 UK limited edition 14-track double album 2-LP
pressed on black vinyl, a welcome reissue of the 2015 album
produced by Lex super-producer Danger Mouse and masked
supervillain MF DOOM. The album also features Cee-Lo Green
of Gnarls Barkley, Talib Kweli, Ghostface Killah, Money Mark
and the cast of cult cartoon show Aqua Teen Hunger Force.
Each record comes inside its own picture sleeve with 4
colourways to display inside the deluxe PVC 'Mask & Ears'
Outer Art Sleeve. Essential)
Tracklisting: Lex Records has a history of lavish packaging but this remains one of the lushest sleeves in the catalogue. Design by EHQuestionmark, the outer sleeve is made from thick translucent PVC with DOOM's mask printed on the front, and mouse ears on each side of the mask forming a pattern that looks like a Rorschach test (a technique reused in another Danger Mouse project six months later). The inner sleeves, with four different colourways to choose from, are visible through the outer and form a pattern based on an Ishihara test, but inside the circles in the pattern are tiny icons depicting different disasters - climate change, acid rain, holy war, nuclear leaks.
The album is composed almost entirely of raps by MF DOOM, performed over beats created by Danger Mouse sampling music from various television shows airing on Cartoon Network's programming block Adult Swim.

 | BOB DYLAN Time Out Of Mind (National Album Day 2023
UK/EU limited edition 11-track double album 2-LP pressed on
Clear Gold
Vinyl, hailed as one of Dylan's best albums, it
went on to win three Grammy Awards, including Album of the
Year in 1998. Limited to just 3000 copies. Picture
sleeve with hype sticker, factory sealed. Recommended)
Tracklisting: At the beginning of Time Out of Mind, Bob Dylan finds himself in the same dead-day world as on 1964's One Too Many Mornings. By now, though, he can't be bothered to romanticise the street and the distant dogs' barking; he can only moan about how sick he is of love, of himself. Saying it seems to give him the strength to go on, and go on he does, over 11 songs that are among his most plainspoken and musically eloquent. The reconstituted bottle-blues that sparked the early '90s acoustic masterpieces Good as I've Been to You and World Gone Wrong carries over to Daniel Lanois's carefully dirty production and a groove that tops anything Dylan's done in a studio since, at least, Blood on the Tracks. No matter how lousy he feels, this is the work of a mighty, mighty man.

In the early eighties Level 42 started out as a jazz-funk fusion band in the United Kingdom, formed by Mark King and the Gould brothers (Phil and Rowland). During the Brit Funk era, they met up with Mike Lindup and Wally Badarou (who would become a fifth member in all but name) and recorded their first single "Love Meeting Love". Their follow-up "Love Games" cracked the UK Top 40 and had success in Europe. What followed was a string of minor hits with "The Sun Goes Down (Living It Up), "Hot Water" but the big breakthrough was with "Something About You" in 1985. The single was Level 42's first American hit, and would do well on both sides of the Ocean. The band carried on delivering hits through their funky, jazzy songs with finger popping good grooves and infectious rhythms.
During the following years up until today, Level 42 are recording records and continue to tour the world, although in a slightly different line-up.
The Collected double vinyl album contains a selection of their songs from the earlier years of "Starchild" up until "Tracie" and "Take A Look". These tracks, specially remastered for vinyl, are exciting, standing the test of time, delivered by a timeless band. |
