This copy is the second generation UK mono issue of the first Stones LP, although Decca employees freely admit that there were multiple typesetters of the labels and they tended to keep the sleeves in a pile, so the combination of sleeve & label is a far from exact science, with many different variations turning up. In reality, it is really still a second press with the modified master that plays the full 4:06 version of 'Tell Me'. The next material difference came in 1965 when the labels dropped the 'Recording First Published' text & just had 'P 1964'.
The label is the 8th variant that can be found on this record. The publishing credits appearing after the track titles, Honest I Do lists Reed as the song credit, and Burlington publishing credit, and correctly states side 1, track 4 as "I Need You Baby" not Mona, which was printed on the initial run.
The sleeve is the third printing variant, with 'MONO' printed on the back & 'I Need You Baby' listed instead of 'Mona'. This also dates the sleeve to 1964.
The sleeve is graded as Near Mint - it looks as good today as the day that it rolled off the presses.
The vinyl has just a few faint paper scuffs and no sign of spindle wear, giving it an Excellent grading.
A wonderful copy! |
