A FEW OF THE MOST RECENT ITEMS WE WANT...
| BLACK SABBATH Master Of Reality (Rare 1971 UK first
pressing 8-track vinyl LP on an inverted black 'swirl' label,
with machine stamped 1Y1/2Y1 matrices & an inverted 'swirl'
die-cut inner, fully laminated & embossed box picture sleeve
completewith the incredibly rare fold-out poster. See 'More
Info' for condition details...) #Top 500 Greatest Albums Of All Time
Tracklisting: The third album by the English heavy metal band, released on the 21st July 1971 and credited as the foundation of doom, stoner and sludge metal. Certified double platinum after having sold over two million copies.
The matrix numbers indicate that this copy was among the first pressed:
SIDE A - 1 Y // 1 V 420
SIDE B - 2 Y // 1 V 420
Condition
The laminated box sleeve has a top opening and was manufactured and printed by Howards Printers Ltd. These are usually found in poor condition due to the design. This copy has some natural lift/peeling to the laminate along the edges & just some faint crease marks around the edges/corners. A nice EX copy.
The labels are the one-off 'reversed' swirl design with black background & white text, with the small swirl logo & 'VERTIGO' text above the spindle. The labels are clean with no writing & very little sign of any play by the spindle hole.
The vinyl easily grades Excellent. There is the tiniest glimpse of axial wear, but after professional cleaning, this is really only evident under closer inspection.
The reversed 'swirl' inner completes the package & is a nice clean example.
Now we come on to the rarest part of this pressing, the POSTER. Printed on the slightly thicker stock paper and with a matt finish not glossy. This example has been stored unused in the sleeve with barely any sign of wear and would be very hard to beat!

The Ernest J. Day front laminated picture sleeve has the large block 'mono' logo on the front and 'photo Angus McBean' credit in bottom right hand corner. The flipbacks are secure & the panels are clean with light creasing, with no writing. The cover grades a pleasing VG+ with some unavoidable age wear including a few scuff marks & some minor corner discolouring on the rear.
The labels are black & yellow Parlophone in design with "The Parlophone Co Ltd" perimeter text. As this is an original 1963 second pressing there is no 'Sold in the UK' text across the centre of the label.
The label still has the Dick James Music credit for Please Please Me & Ask Me Why.
Clearly readable silver text with no blemishes or fading, striking yellow Parlophone logo & no heavy spindle marks.
Matrix numbers:
Side One XEX 421-1N
Side Two XEX 422-1N
The Vinyl
The vinyl is in fabulous condition with no audible or visible scratches or marks. On close inspection there are a couple of light surface hairlines visible. The vinyl retains its original shine despite being over half a century old. This is unusual as many copies of this album were played excessively at parties during the 60's and many became damaged or badly scratched.
A nice & very acceptable EX-/EX copy at an advantageous price. |
