The Red Hot Chili Peppers hit the musci scene with their self-titled debut in 1984. While the album didn't set the world on fire, they were building a dedicated underground following. The follow up 'Freaky Styley' was an improvement but it still lacked the fire of the band's live shows. All that changed with 1987's 'The Uplift Mofo Party Plan'. After a few tweaks to the line up they hit pay dirt with 1989's 'Mother's Milk', which became a surprise hit. The group soon began work on what would become their most successful release yet, 'Blood Sugar Sex Magik'. The album became a monster hit going on to eventually sell over seven million copies. Subsequent releases failed to match that success until the rejuvenated Chilis released 'Californication', in 1999. After a lengthy spell on the road they returned to the studio to record 'By The Way'. The album would bring them huge single success thanks to the superb 'The Zephyr Song' and the title track from the album. The accompanying tour was box office smash around the globe and was captured at its best on the live album 'Live In Hyde Park'.
