JOHN COLTRANE Coltrane's Sound (2010 issue UK 50th Anniversary Edition 6-track LP pressed on 180gram Heavyweight Vinyl - While Coltrane first gained attention for his revolutionary 'sheets of sound' technique, it was the deep spirituality of his music that really made his solo records such classics. The albums this giant of music recorded for Atlantic in 1959 and 1960 really represent the heart of his legacy. His sessions for Atlantic in late October 1960 were prolific, yielding the material for 'My Favorite Things', 'Coltrane Plays the Blues' and 'Coltrane's Sound'. One of Coltrane's less known albums, co-starring pianist McCoy Tyner, bassist Steve Davis and drummer Elvin Jones, this set is highly recommended!) more...

JOHN COLTRANE Africa (2015 UK/EU 5-track LP pressed on 180gram Vinyl -released in 1985 but recorded on 24th June 1958 at the Van Gelder Studio in Hackensack, NJ. These sessions feature original compositions by Wilbur Harden [best known for his work with Yusef Lateef and John Coltrane] and hard-bop trombonist Curtis Fuller. The 32-year-old John Coltrane had only just recorded 'Blue Train' a year earlier and it is interesting to hear his style beginning to stretch out, ashe makes his musical transition from strict hard bop to the groundbreaking style that would become legendary the following year on 'Giant Steps', making Coltrane one of the biggest names in jazz. Includes bonus recording 'Once In A While' [recorded 13th May 1958]; picture sleeve. The sleeve shows a couple of light indentations but few signs of wear. The vinyl is in Near Mint condition, showing no obvious signs of play. DOL754H) more...
