THE HORACE SILVER QUINTET The Tokyo Blues (Blue Note
Tone Poet Series 2025 limited edition 5-track stereo LP
cut directly from the original analogue tapes, mastered by
Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio and pressed at RTI on
180-gram vinyl.Inspired by his 1962 tour of Japan, pianist
and composer Horace Silver returned to the U.S. to record
The Tokyo Blues -a heartfelt dedication to his
Japanese fans. Silver's quintet, featuring trumpeter Blue
Mitchell, tenor saxophonist Junior Cook, bassist Gene Taylor,
and drummer John Harris Jr., delivers a five-track set that
blends Japanese-inspired melodic sensibilities with
Latin-tinged rhythms. Highlights include Silver's originals
"The Tokyo Blues," "Too Much Sake," "Sayonara Blues," and
"Ah! So," alongside Ronnell Bright's delicate ballad "Cherry
Blossom." The result is one of Silver's most distinctive and
imaginative albums of the early 1960s. Presented inside a
deluxe tip-on pasted picture sleeve, hype sticker & factory
sealed inside its loose bag. Recommended)
