THE MILCHO LEVIEV QUARTET featuring ART PEPPER Blues For The
Fisherman (Very rare 1985 UK 6-track CD featuring tracks from Art
Pepper's amazing gigs at Ronnie Scotts in June 1980. Long out of
print, the CD contains not only the whole LP of the same title, but also
two bonus tracks - 'True Blues' & 'Goodbye'. To call these
performances 'magnificent' is an understatement, this is a band on top
form, with Tony Dumas on Bass & Carl Burnett on Drums driving the
rhythm along & the astonishing Milcho Leviev providing percussive &
melodic piano at one & the same time. Art may not have seen eye to
eye with Milcho from time to time, but the tension & fire of this
performance will take your breath away - A classic! CDMOLE1PLUS)

ART PEPPER Tokyo Debut (1995 Japanese only 8-track CD recorded
live at the Yubin Chokin Hall in Tokyo on April 5th 1977 with Cal Tjader
on Vibes, Clare Fischer on Keyboards, Bob Redfield on Guitar, Rob
Fisher on Bass, Peter Riso on Drums & PonchoSanchez on Percussion.
The more full, yet still small, combo add an edge to Art's superlative
playing, making it one of the more unusual of Art's 'comeback'
sessions. Of particular note is the rousing version of 'Cherokee' & the
playing of aliberally Latin spiced set. Now beautifully digitally
remastered, the CD has full English sleeve notes by Laurie Pepper & a
Japanese translation insert & is complete with the often missing
obi-strip VICJ-23185)

ART PEPPER Art Pepper Meets The Rhythm Section (2010 issue UK
10-track digitally remastered CD album - By all accounts, this early
1957 session should have been a disaster. Recently released from
federal prison, Pepper was still struggling with a heroin addiction and
severely out of practice. The gig had been set up by Pepper's
girlfriend [unbeknownst to him until just hours before the sessions
were to begin], and he discovered at the last minute that - after
several months of not playing - the cork in the mouthpiece of his horn
had come loose. But in the end, the session proved to be a triumph
rather than a disaster, with the camaraderie between Pepper and the
Rhythm Section resulting in one of Art's greatest recordings. Includes
the Bonus Recording 'The Man I Love', which was recorded
at this session but was not included in the original album. Complete
with extensive sleevenotes written by Jazz writer/broadcaster Neil
Tesser)
