DONALD BYRD Chant (Limited Edition 2019 US issue of the 1979 6-track stereo LP in the Blue Note Tone Poet Series, specially plated & pressed at RTI on 180gram Vinyl & mastered by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio from the original master tape. Recorded on April 17, 1961 but not released until 1979, this excellent quintet session features the always formidable team of trumpeter legend Donald Byrd & baritonist Pepper Adams. The accompanying rhythm section includes pianist Herbie Hancock shortly before he joined Miles Davis' group - this is standout, superior hard bop from the early '60s, with wonderful Alfred Lion production & Rudy Van Gelder engineering for that beautiful Blue Note sound.
