GIL SCOTT-HERON Small Talk At 125th And Lenox (UK/EU limited edition 14-track black vinyl LP - the 1970 debut album by the African-American soul singer, jazz poet, musician and author. Gil Scott-Heron was 21 years old when he was signed to Flying Dutchman by Bob Thiele to make an album of his poetry. The resultant Small Talk at 125th and Lenox was recorded before a small live audience and, released in 1970, sat perfectly in a world where the Last Poets had just tasted Top 10 success with their debut LP. Opening with the original spoken-word version of "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised," the album moves through a series of piercing observations on race, inequality, and American life. Pieces like "Omen," "Brother," "Plastic Pattern People," and "Everyday" underline Scott-Heron's narrative sharpness, while "Whitey On The Moon" remains one of his most devastating critiques-contrasting the expense of the space race with the lived reality of poverty and neglect. More than fifty years on, the material feels unflinchingly present. Gatefold picture sleeve, factory sealed)
