SAM RIVERS Contours (Limited Edition 2020 US issue of the 1965 4-track stereo LP in the Blue Note Tone Poet Series, specially plated & pressed at RTI on 180gram Vinyl & mastered by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio from the original mastertape. Saxophonist & flutist Sam Rivers followed-up his striking debut Fuchsia Swing Song with this tremendous album, Contours, recorded at Rudy Van Gelder's studio in 1965 with a top-flight band starring Freddie Hubbard on trumpet, Herbie Hancock on piano, Ron Carter on bass & Joe Chambers on drums. The quintet explored four of Rivers' engaging original compositions, with a profound spirit of freedom & innovation while keeping a foot firmly planted in Post-Bop. Comes housed in a deluxe gatefold sleeve with original art, factory sealed in its perforated tear bag with hype sticker attached. Recommended ST-84206)

In honor of Blue Note Records' 80th Anniversary, in 2019, the Jazz label launched the Tone Poet Audiophile Vinyl Reissue Series. Blue Note President Don Was brought in "Tone Poet" Joe Harley-co-founder and co-producer of the acclaimed Music Matters Ltd. audiophile vinyl series-to produce this new series of all-analog, mastered-from-the-original-master-tape 180 gram audiophile vinyl reissues in deluxe gatefold packaging. Mastering is by Kevin Gray (Cohearent Audio) and vinyl is being manufactured at Record Technology Incorporated (RTI).

The titles were handpicked by Harley and cover lesser-known Blue Note classics, modern era standouts, and albums from other labels under the Blue Note catalogue.
