Condition :-

The Sleeve :-

We should start by saying, we have never found one of these before. Obtained from a one previous owner collection, with all records bought as rare exotic imports from new in the UK at the time, the heavyweight pasted laminate sleeve remains in decent shape. There is reinforced magic tape top & bottom, with a little chipping to the paper & a few obvious hairline splits down the spine but nothing unreasonable. For a US sleeve that's well over half a century old, it's a miracle it still looks as good as it does, with all text clearly legible. It also retains a nice, period UK tax code sticker & even the Mecolico royalty sticker for author's rights, which were affixed during export from the US.

The Labels :-

As stated, this is a rare transitional copy between the first 'Lexington Ave' address release & the second issue 'West 63rd', which was released only a year after the first. Both versions have the same 'deep groove' indentations, with no 'INC' or 'R' trademark lettering.

Both sides of the label are clean & free from writing, stickers, excessive wear or any other blemishes that would affect the print. There is just some minor spindle to indicate play but nothing at all excessive.

The Vinyl :-

The Rudy Van Gelder initials 'RVG' & the 'ear' shape are etched into the runoff area. The matrices, like the 'ear' are hand scratched. A combination of Van Gelder's sound engineering & Plastylite pressing well & truly marked the 'golden age' of highest quality, Blue Note pressings.

The vinyl has been professionally cleaned on a Matrix machine and has come up looking sparkling. Under a bright light, there is just a few faint paper scuffs to indicate some play but this is minimal & playback meets an excellent condition grade.

Overall, a lovely VG/EX- of this Blue Note gem!
