Kind Of Blue - 1st 6-eye

MILES DAVIS Kind Of Blue (Beautiful & historic 1959 US first deep groove MONO issue of the undisputed classic 5-track LP, on the iconic red & black 'six eye' Columbia label with 'XLP47324-1BC/XLP47325-1J' matrices in the run-outs. The side one run-out is hand scratched & side two is machine stamped. This is the very rare original mono mix, as intended at the time of release, & towering well above its peers, this is the album to end all jazz albums! One of the crucial points to mention here is that the original Kind of Blue mono master tape no longer exists, alas these first issue mono LPs are the best quality examples in terms of sound & instrumental balance [original so-called 'stereo' pressings had pitch errors]. A must have for the Miles collector & fascinating to compare to subsequent issues. See 'more info' for condition details... CL8163)

Condition : -

The pasted picture sleeve, complete with original catalogue inner, has survived over half a century in spectacular condition. Cannonball Adderley's name is misspelt 'Adderly' & 'Flamenco Sketches' is listed before 'All Blues' [the labels list them the other way round]. The colours are still bright & vivid & both sides clean, with clearly legible text all over including along the spine. There are no splits & just the lightest few cosmetic blemishes on the front panel barely noticeable. The edges reveal just the lightest signs of shelf wear, astonishing considering it's unlaminated. A beautiful example, graded Excellent.

The matrix numbers in the trail off are hand scratched 'XLP47324-1BC' & machine stamped 'XLP47325-1J' either side. Regarding the letters, the myth goes that Columbia worked through the alphabet, first with single then double letters (A to NJ, B to Indiana, C to CA & so on).

The heavyweight vinyl is super clean & plays like a dream with minimal surface noise & no distortion. The labels are clean with just the lightest evidence of play by the spindle area. The vinyl is graded EX+ with just the softest of vinyl ambience during the classic intro to So What. Simply wonderful this album... pure aural ambrosia!
