JOHN COLTRANE & DON CHERRY The Avant-Garde (1967 Japanese import 5-track stereo vinyl LP, manufactured in the States on the green & orange Atlantic label with '1841 Broadway' address & US pasted laminate picture sleeve & colour catalogue inner. This copy was sold overseas with wide first Japanese issue obi-strip. Originally recorded in 1960, this album featured Coltrane & Cherry plus Charlie Haden & Ed Blackwell [three quarters of Ornette Coleman's quartet] plus Percy Heath of theModern Jazz Quartet, the earliest example of Coltrane's improvisational style meeting Coleman's blues-based style. There is a little discolouring along the top of the obi & back panel but otherwise the sleeve remains in excellent condition & the vinyl looks barely played SD-1451)
