Let The Hard Times Roll

DAVID FORD Let The Hard Times Roll (2010 UK 13-track CD album - 'Let The Hard Times Roll' is Ford's third and boldest album yet. Another product of his DIY approach, it was written and recorded on his own, in his room, in Eastbourne, with the exception of the track 'Missouri', which was written and recorded in a motel whilst touring the USA. Overall, the album contains some of the most upbeat, energetic and positive songs David Ford has ever written. The swearing and 8 minute miserabilist epics that marked his first two albums out as 5 star cult classics, but not necessarily essential listening for the vast majority of people, have been cast aside and replaced with an underlying positivity and fresh sense of rhythm. Once freed from the pressures and demands that came with being signed to Sony Records in New York for the recording of his second album 'Songs For The Road'; David's muse found a new optimism and drive as he started to work on this collection in the summer of 2009. The album opens with 'Panic', all strained nerves, ominous tick tock piano, Beatles-esque breakdown, big guitar and even bigger vocals. The percussion driven and Tom Waits influenced, 'Nothing At All' has already become a live tour de force, while the rompingly joyful sound of 'She's Not the One For Me' brings to mind the bedraggled camaraderie of The Faces. The heart wrenching tale of PC Stephen Carroll, who was murdered in N.Ireland in the summer of 2009 and the dignified and moving way his wife Kate responded, is told in Ford's hauntingly beautiful and deliberately non schmaltzy 'Stephen'. The album closes with the stately and inspiring 'Call To Arms' – a song which underlines David Ford's deep belief in the power of friendship and community)
