Good Rockin' Tonight

ELVIS PRESLEY Good Rockin' Tonight (An astonishing piece of History! Here we have Elvis' SECOND single release from 1954, made on the tiny Tennessee Sun label & released on September 25th that year with very limited distribution. The A-side, credited to 'Elvis Presley, Scotty & Bill' was a 1948 R&B tune written by Ray Brown, while the B-side was 'I Don't Care If The Sun Don't Shine', a song Elvis heard sung in a movie by Dean Martin. Now fifty five years old, this amazing artifact hasbeen preserved in nice condition, free from any major surface marks)Please see 'More Info' for further details ...

Tracklisting & More Information

This is the dawn of Rock & Roll. Sam Phillips had only released one record by Elvis before this one - That's Alright Mama c/w Blue Moon Of Kentucky.
Is this an orginal pressing ? Yes it is.
Much counterfeited, this is distinguished from the counterfeits by the round punch marks of the press, the rippled & thin quality of the early vinyl [Sun was a VERY small outfit, & the vinyl was often recycled] & U-130/1-45 72 scratched into the runoff area.
This is the real deal.

Condition :-

Very presentable, but not mint. When these turn up, they have nearly all had fifty years of play by dedicated Elvis fans. The best they turn up are normally very poor.
The A Side vinyl has the usual vinyl rippling & pitting of an original Sun pressing but this is common to ALL original Sun singles.

Visually the disc has a few surface marks and plays like all poor quality pressed Sun singles with a fair amount of surface noise. This is also common as the record decks of 1954 tracked a wee bit heavier than the cartridges of today - Think Elephant to Mouse. It has obviously been well looked after, as visually there is just one light scuff that is audible during play.
The B Side is much the same with just a few light surface marks, not a lot bigger than paper scuffs.
As far as we can be aware, the plain brown die cut paper sleeve is also contemporary to the disc.
Both sides play through perfectly with no skips or jumps although, as previously mentioned, there is a fair deal of surface noise when playing on a modern narrow stylus.

The labels on both sides, so often worn or smudged [the label printing was done as cheaply as the vinyl pressing!], are in fantastic condition with every letter clearly defined & no discernable ringwear. The three round punch marks of the press can be clearly felt around the inner lip where the vinyl thins even more towards the large round centre hole.

For the serious Elvis collector, this is one of the true Holy Grail items, capturing a young, lean 'n' mean Elvis with all the excitement of early Elvis captured on vinyl. You would be unlikely to find another in as good condition as this - It's taken us over twenty five years to find this one!
A legendary Elvis Sun 7" in 'as good as it gets' condition - Don't Think Twice [It's Alright] :-)
