HORACE SILVER Live At Newport '58 (2008 UK 5-track digitally remastered CD album - Following the split of The Jazz Messengers in 1955, Silver went on to form his own quintet and recorded the classic album 'Six Pieces of Silver'; by 1958 his quintet was made up of Louis Smith, Junior Cook, Gene Taylor & Louis Hayes and it was this outfit which headlined the Sunday night of the Newport Jazz Festival with extended workings of 'Senor Blues', 'Cool Eyes', 'The Outlaw' and 'Trippin';complete with sleevenotes by Michael Cuscuna who discovered this unique recording in the Library of Congress)
