Tracklisting & More Information

An acetate is a transitional stage between the master tape and the finished vinyl record.

Originally acetates were used for home recording in the days before tape recorders, but since the advent of cassette tape & CDR are now no longer used for providing bands & their entourage copies of today's studio efforts. A machine actually cuts the grooves into the acetate like a lathe.

The acetate is used to assess whether the music has been successfully transferred to disc. It is checked by the sound engineer. There may be only one copy made of a particular recording, sometimes more are cut and sent to the studio and band members for approval.
This comes before making the master, and allows the sound to be checked without great expense.

It is unusual for more than a dozen to be manufactured, so from the collector's point of view an acetate is a rare find indeed! If the recording is rejected the acetate may be the only record that survives. The rejected cut may simply be poor quality, however the artist may have opted to use a different take of the song, if so, the acetate becomes much more precious.
An incredible find - possibly unique - and certainly one of only a handful.

This one-off acetate has incredibly clean labels with no print fade. There are simply no other examples of a 'Get Off Of My Cloud' acetate, the Stones' tricky follow-up to the huge success they faced with 'Satisfaction', to hit the market. A kind of 'stop bugging me' message to those demanding more at the time, it's a proto-punky number & the only UK acetate for the song in the world deserving of only the best Stones collection. This example has light surface scuffs & cosmetic wear either side to be expected, common with any surviving acetate, especially from this era. Despite the fragile playing surface, the disc plays through without jumps or sticks & retains its sonic fidelity nicely on a mono playback setting - There is a very faint 'whoosh' sound on a few rotations during the end of 'Get Off Of My Cloud'. The disc would benefit from a simple & very careful clean for those that know how to treat acetates correctly. Sold 'as is', this is a firm future Stones collectable in the right hands & a crown jewel in any Stones collection. Uniquely coupled with The Everly Brothers on the b-side, who were in mid-battle for their UK distribution at the time, with Decca losing out to Pye, this is an all-round mid-60s piece of British pop history a museum might kill for. What a find!
