Still Life (American Concert 1981) - 1st

ROLLING STONES Still Life (American Concert 1981) (1983 US first issue 12-track live CD, pressed in Germany for the US market, complete with booklet, plastic tray & US printed tuck end 6" by 12½" longbox. This is the only Stones album to have been released by Atlantic/WEA before the transfer of the post 1971 catalogue to CBS distribution in 1986. Making this even more desirable is that it is also the only Rolling Stones CD pressed on a 'Target' CD, a European design format that has a few quirks making them extremely desirable for the collector)

Tracklisting & More Information

To meet demand, early CD releases by Atlantic/WEA were often pressed in Europe or Japan. The ones pressed in Europe became known as 'Target' CDs for their distinctive crosshair look.
The longboxes for these CDs lack barcodes and are of the tuck end variety where later longboxes were sealed at the ends.

This is the very first issue of Still Life & indeed the only issue to have a 'Target' CD version. These were pressed and printed in West Germany, then repackaged in a US longbox.
Being on Rolling Stones Records, it is also the only 'Target' to be printed in red & yellow, most being a lot less ornate.

What makes these issues especially of value to the collector is that they were FLAT TRANSFER copies of the original album master tapes and have not been subject to additional EQ, compression or noise reduction. This makes these CDs as near as possible in sound quality to the way the artist first intended them to sound, with them not going through the questionable 'loudness wars' of the remastering brigade which compressed the dynamic range to make the remaster 'louder'.

Another quirk is that the listed track time for Going To A Go-Go is 3:01 on both CD & longbox, but it in fact plays for 3:24, although 3:21 is often listed for this CD. The commercial release of the single ran for 3:23.

Condition:

The box tuck flaps show a little wear but are untorn. There is some scuffing to the outside of the box & a little damage about halfway up, but is still free from untoward scuffs & remains more than acceptable.
The internal tray is still intact & unsplit.

The CD shows a couple of hairline marks but no CD rot or anything at all that would affect play.

One of the hardest US Rolling Stones CDs to find and still complete with the original longbox pack !
