LEONID KOGAN Lalo: Symphonie Espagnole / Tchaikovsky:
Sérénade Mélancolique (Very rare 1960 UK first issue 6-track
STEREO vinyl LP on the turquoise & silver Columbia label with
YAX-305-1/YAX306-6 stamped matrices, featuring Kyril
Kondrashin conducting The Philharmonia Orchesra, front
laminated flipback picture sleeve. The sleeve has damage to
the reverse with a 3cm section of the top right and 7cm
section of the bottom middle flipback missing, along with a
further tear to the top flipback; the unlaminated panel shows
only moderate discolouration with the odd spot of foxing and
the text all still clearly legible. The spine shows little wear
and the front is clean with minimal signs of wear leaving
Gerry Zwirn's photography still looking wonderful with its
vibrant colours popping. The labels are bright & shiny with
just a little sticker residue around the Columiba logo on Side
One from a factory sample sticker that has since fallen off.
The vinyl is Near Mint with a stunning reproduction which is
both clear and powerful. A superb item, possibly one of the
most sought-after classical recordings on vinyl! SAX2329)

CONSTANTIN SILVESTRI conducts the PARIS CONSERVATOIRE
ORCHESTRA Tchaikovsky: Violin Concerto / Meditation (1960 UK
first press MONO LP on the dark blue & gold Columbia label, as
led by Leonid Kogan, considered one of the greatest violinists of
the 20th century, front laminated flipback picture sleeve with
original EMI inner. Obtained from a one previous owner
collection, the sleeve is nice & clean & in Excellent condition with
just a little faint ring wear. There are no tears or writing [faint
stamp on back] & the artwork looks majestic. The vinyl is a high
quality pressing with outstanding dynamic range. The vinyl is
Excellent to Near Mint with few signs of use - it was a joy to play
test the record & we can confirm no major clicks or any surface
grievance that might hinder the enjoyment of this exceptional
performance on vinyl. Note, it should be played on a mono-only
setting for maximum clarity. Lastly, this is a bargain when
compared to the 'SAX 2323' stereo version [a four figure sum
record] & surely sounds just as nice! 33CX1711)
