The precious recordings found here across 10 audiophile vinyl LPs were captured by Dean Benedetti, a Los Angeles musician & one of the earliest 'ornithologist' Parker devotees. They showcase Parker, & Parker only, using a cheap, portable disc cutter from Sears, Roebuck (later switching to a primitive reel-to-reel tape deck). The instant Parker began an alto sax solo, the machines began to record; the instant Parker stopped, the machines were cut off. The result is 461 fragments, some as brief as 20 seconds, captured over 18 nights in LA & New York nightclubs in 1947-48, painstakingly restored four decades later by audio engineer & Parker authority Phil Schaap. Benedetti's surviving brother Rigoletto "Rick" Benedetti contacted Michael Cuscuna of Mosaic Records some time back & informed Cuscuna that the acetate discs & tapes actually existed. Purchased by Mosaic for $15,000, Benedetti's archive comprised 53 78-rpm acetate discs & 14 reels of paper-based tape. Benedetti's paper-backed tapes had dried out & were in a fragile state. Initially the tapes, reportedly eight miles in total length, could not be played without breaking - Schaap used Wite-Out, a brand of correction fluid, on the reverse of the tapes (where necessary) to strengthen them. The recordings have survived & have been carefully restored to their best possible quality. Three years in the making, this is very much one for the hardcore Bird fanatic!

The packaging remains in Excellent condition with very little shelf wear & each vinyl disc is in Near Mint condition with few signs of play.
