'REEBOP' KWAKU BAAH & GANOUA Trance (1977 UK Island first press 5-track LP on the orange sunrise label, documenting for the first time on record the music of Ganoua (or G'noua), a mystical sect of North Africa. Island at this point were more than happy to pilot 'Reebop', formerly Traffic's secret percussive weapon, in a Land Rover across Africa in search of their music & its so-called healing power. This unique meeting took place in a rambling old palace in Tangier. With exotic instruments like the Gimbri (a three-stringed lute made from wood & leather), Cocobars (iron castanets) & the Bindir (a tambourine drum) all put to stunning use, this is one magical record, indeed.
