ELTON JOHN The Goaldiggers Song (Extremely rare 1977 UK mail-order only 7" vinyl single with an intact four prong centre - This single was released for the first football charity aptly named, The Goaldiggers, which was set up in 1972 to help underprivilege children to find places to play the game and the B-Side [titled 'Jimmy, Brian, Elton & Eric'] is a comedy sketch featuring Elton with Jimmy Hill, Brian Moore and Eric Morecambe with Elton talking and playing the piano. It has a playing speed of 33 1/3 rpm, plays for twelve minutes long and comes issued in the original Rocket Record company die-cut paper sleeve with the disc itself in fantastic 'unplayed' condition. Additionally, this copy also comes accompanied by TWO large sized T-Shirts [one red & one white] and a blue neck tie, all new and unworn. A fantastic set of this rarity, with only 500 copies of the 7" having been pressed and the master tapes were supposedly destroyed after! GOALD1)

The Goaldiggers was the first football charity, set up in 1972 to help underprivileged children find somewhere to play the game. Money was raised through football matches and other chariety events to help create areas around the country. The original chairman was Brian Forbes until Jimmy Hill took over the role.

Elton recorded this single, with them being sold at the charity ball in 1977, each copy was sold for just five british pounds with only 500 copies pressed. The A side features ‘The Goaldiggers Song’, which was written & performed by Elton and has never been released anywhere else.

The B side is twelve minute long playing at 33 1/3 RPM, featuring the voices of Elton, Brian Moore, Jimmy Hill and Eric Morecambe. The four chat, tell jokes and explain the Goaldiggers charity. Despite some websites claiming Eric does not appear on this track, he pops up around eight minutes, when he jokingly says Elton has just gone to make some tea, then continues to joke around throughout the rest of the track.

The charity sadly closed its doors on 23rd March 2004.

The Tie were worn at the annual dinner at the Dorchester in London, whilst the T shirts were used to promote the charity at different fundraising events.
