ERNIE WILKINS featuring 5 TRUMPETS Top Brass (1956 Canadian 6-track deep groove mono vinyl LP, recorded for Savoy in November 1955 & engineered by Rudy Van Gelder. The London Savoy labels are red & silver with 'Made In Canada' print & 'RVG' etched in the run-outs. The 'five trumpets' in question are Donald Byrd, Ray Copeland, Joe Wilder, Ernie Royal & Idrees Sulieman, led by conducter & arranger Ernie Wilkins, who also provides half the tunes, aided & abetted by the very worthy Savoy in-house musicians at the time, Hank Jones, Wendell Marshall & Kenny Clarke - complete with the Canadian print sleeve, this album is a tour de force. The front laminate pasted sleeve has some chipping or minor paper splitting at a few edges with historic tape reinforcement at some of the corners & opening. A number & name annotation on the back remains unobtrusive & all text is clearly legible.

The heavyweight vinyl appears super clean & grades VG+/EX-. There merely a few faint paper scuffs or spindle to highlight play. A never before seen Canadian original ready for action on the turntable at a very convenient price!
