ART PEPPER The Art Pepper Quartet (1958 US 7-track second issue black vinyl mono LP on the magenta Tampa label, also featuring Russ Freeman on piano, Ben Tucker on bass & Gary Frommer on Drums, front pasted picture sleeve. Recorded in a rare moment in the fifties when he was not in Jail, you can see even in these early sessions that whatever his personal problems, he projected soul whenever he played, as perfected in his mid seventies comeback albums after a long period in rehab. As is normal with this design of sleeve, there is a split to the bottom and a small area of paper loss on the front, but far less wear & tear than is usually seen. The vinyl remains in fantastic condition with just a few light surface scuffs & hairlnes to show for its fifty five years and, although obviously played, retains its sheen to this day TP-20)
