ESQUERITA Esquerita! (Stonkingly rare 1959 Brazilian first press 12-track mono LP on a dark blue Capitol label, promo stickered to one side for review purposes & pressed on '50s quality heavyweight vinyl. Rock N Roll hall of fame alert! This is the raucous & wild debut by the flamboyant Esquerita! This is the guy that invented the wild piano & stage persona popularized by his friend Little Richard. Not only that, original Brazilian copies are ten times harder to track down than their US counterparts, which are much in demand. Housed in a unique wraparound card sleeve with album notes exclusively in Portuguese, see 'more info' for condition details of this R'n'R masterpiece... T-1186)

Finding serviceable South American vinyl is tough in itself, the LPs are often found in a terrible state. To find a Brazilian pressing of an album like this, from the very birth of Rock N Roll, is what makes our job special.

The sleeve is essentially two slicks pasted onto two pieces of 12" square card done the Brazilian way & stuck together at the spine, minus the poly. This is the way South American covers were made. Some edge wear or creasing is therefore inevitable, but this example still holds up remarkably well considering.
What's remarkable perhaps, is that the stunning artwork has lost none of its vivid colour. There is a catalogue sticker affixed to a rear corner, with a couple of small paper splits noticeable on the back. All text remains legible & unblemished & the back panel is an attractive off white. This could have easily gone the opposite way, but the sleeve has survived intact. It still looks the part i.e. super cool!

One of the inside panels is annotated, as are both sides of the label, which can only be seen under close scrutiny. No doubt annotated for review, the side one label bears two sample stickers, which indicate the disc was used for promotional purposes first & foremost, prior to commercial release. This in itself is a nice find, as not many of these early review pressings would have survived.

There is a fair amount of spindle wear by the centre hole, indicating past action on the turntable, not at all surprising. The vinyl is thick, solid, heavyweight stuff of the fifties, quality made before the oil price rise & the kind of stuff any true vinyl addict or audiophiliac might appreciate. You will understand when you flick that mono switch & put this one on your platter.
The vinyl has received a professional deep cleanse both sides courtesy of a high end Matrix machine. Despite a number of small paper scuffs or mild hairlines both sides, the resultant sound quality is simply glorious, hence the quality of the vinyl. The music comes through clear with no distortion & just the softest surface noise on occasion between tracks.
By no means mint, this remains a very healthy & serviceable example in the 'VG' bracket, & simply a class piece of wax. Original Brazilian review copies for this album certainly don't appear every day. We have never stocked one before & are unlikely to again. Sure to standout in any deserving Rock N Roll collection. Way recommended!
