JOE ZAWINUL Zawinul (1971 UK 5-track stereo LP, on the orange & grey Atlantic label. This is a great album from the creative engine behind Weather Report & Miles Davis' electric years, guest starring everyone from Wayne Shorter & Herbie Hancock to Miroslav Vitous. The sleeve is US printed with the UK catalogue number sticker & Miles quote on the back. The sleeve shows only a bit of faint wear to the laminate & the vinyl is Excellent with minimal play K40349)

Opening with Doctor Honoris Causa dedicated to Herbie Hancock for his Honorary Doctorate at Grinnell University, Zawinul doubles up with Herbie on the keys [with Woody Shaw on trumpet] to create an impressionistic sound painting, a work that, in its way, compliments Miles' In A Silent Way recorded a year before - Zawinul expands on that very number on side 1, and with tape-speed manipulation and Echoplex devices deployed to vast effect, across the whole of the LP, he produces a rich and adventurous affair worthy of the attention of any serious jazz-rock fan.
